Took off from Leuchars on a recce mission at Trondheim area. They were pursued and attacked by two Messerschmitts of JG 5.
P/O Ian Hutchinson and his observer P/O Basil K Allen had to make a forced landing on the German occupied airfield at Ørland.
They managed to set the aircraft on fire before being captured by the Germans.
Both spent the rest of the war as PoW's at Stalag Luft 3.
