1./JG 5 Weisse 3 WNr.14055 Fw.Josef Sommeregger (missing) 07.07 1943

Two Messerschmitts took off from Sola to attack 14 Hampdens of 455 Sqadron above Egersund. Sommeregger's plane was hit by fire from Hampden UB-P and soon after crashed into the sea 90km SW of Stavanger. Source: Article in Flyhistorie Nr.42 by Ernst Knutson.

The aircraft sank to a depth of 300m. On November 15th1988 the aircraft was caught in the trawl by two fishermen.

On 16th December 1988 the aircraft was raised from the sea and brought to Flyhistorisk Museum Sola for restoration work.

The Messerschmitt was based at Lista. It was manufactured at Regensburg in March 1942. Factory code was NI+BY

Fw.Sommeregger also had another crash landing with a Fw 190 at island Toska on February 1943
